Grazia Inserillo

BIO

My role is twofold in the act of weaving: DRAW the skeins to see clearly and KNOT so as not to lose, not to forget.

I was born in Sicily in 1988, in Palermo, where I trained as a sculptress attending the Academy of Fine Arts. I lived in Isola delle Femmine, among the fishing nets and embroideries of my family: the knots and intertwining are all origin of my existence and with the thread I investigate the anthropological aspect of the concept of existing and inhabiting.

Today I am a teacher of plastic disciplines, of art and image and I deal with textile installations in the context of contemporary art.

I have participated in several group exhibitions in Palermo and Sicily, in Milan, Turin, Dusseldorf and New York.

I have received several awards including the FAM Award – Young Sicilian Artists and the BID Award – International Biennial Woman.

Among the permanent collections of the Palazzo Riso Museum of Contemporary Art in Palermo, the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Church of San Rocco in Trapani, the Museum of Salemi and the Polytechnic University of Valencia there are some of my textile installations.
