What is a dope woman artist? It’s a visual artist who works hard. Approval from others does not define her. She is a woman who encourages and inspires other women. She is a woman who does not apologize for being dope.
The entire month of August 2020, Art Now After Hours celebrated a new dope woman artist daily. My goal was to explore, discover and share these dope artists on our social media platform. Then after my journey was completed to celebrate these artists on our website. August was also a month where the first woman of color, Kamala Harris became a Vice President Nominee!!! The only time I would miss a daily posting on social media is when I could not focus. This was due to men being shot or murdered in America (e.g., Jacob Blake, Anthony Hurber and Joseph Rosenbaum). Not being able to go home due to Pandemic. Then there was the death of actor, Chadwick Boseman.
August was a very draining month both mentally and emotionally. But what gave my spirit light was late at night. Strolling through these artist’s website, social media and articles. I never planned on what artist I would celebrate until the day before. So it made my nightly adventure exciting. Would spend my nights relaxing my mind and body in bed looking at art. Rediscovering artists I already knew and discovering new artists. Each of these dope women artist’s work inspired me to get the fuck out of bed and get shit done.

A DOPE WOMAN ARTISTS: Sadikisha Collier
Week 3 of celebrating Dope Women Artists. There are these rare artists I call “spiritual” artists. When he/she hug you, it touches your soul. When you see their face/smile it touches your soul. When they speak it touches your soul. You see their work and it all makes sense.
Capturing our spirit is like when you go to church and you catch the Holy Spirit. Its not just about having people in your paintings, that look like you. It’s not just about an artist having their own recognizable painting technique. This spiritual artist has this rare special gift by God. He or She is able to touch your soul. Make your heart beat faster. Able to capture what makes black love, black sister/brotherhood, black family so unique and special. Artist, Verna Hart had this gift RIP, Others like Harris Wiltsher, Johnnie Andre Anderson, Madge Scott and TAFA.But today celebrating artist https://www.facebook.com/sadikishasaundra.collier. She brings so much empowerment to the Culture by using love.
